BATANGAS CHURCH: Parokya ng Mahal na Poon (Mass Schedule + How to Get There)

Batangas has a rich cultural and historical heritage as evidenced by the traditional houses and centuries-old churches you’ll see during your visit. The municipality of Lemery has its own story to tell that contributes to the history of the province.

The initial settlers of the town came from Cavite, Taal, and Mindoro. They went to this part of Batangas because of the abundance of fish and the high demand for this product. The town grew and was later named “Punta.” In 1818, Taal included Punta within its municipality and was given a new name: San Geronimo. In the early 1860s, San Geronimo became Lemery and was no longer part of Taal.

The Parokya ng Mahal na Poon located in Brgy. Bukal, Lemery may not have the illustrious past and baroque-inspired architecture of more famous churches in the province, but it plays an important role in the lives of the locals. The church has a simple yet modern-looking facade. The interior has religious icons with the cross as the primary and prominent feature.
