BATANGAS CHURCH: St. John the Baptist Parish Church (Mass Schedule + How to Get There)

Lian is one of the coastal towns in Batangas. It is known mainly for its beaches, especially during the ’50s until early ’90s when Matabungkay Beach was at the peak of its glory days. At present, people still flock to Matabungkay during the summer season. It is popular for its fine light-colored sand, numerous floating cottages, and sunset.

John the Baptist is the patron saint of Lian. Its parish church named after him, Parish of St. John the Baptist, is one of the oldest in Batangas (although it has undergone reconstructions, making it look modern). In August 2011, it was officially declared Asia’s first Catholic shrine that is dedicated to John the Baptist. Consequently, it is also called the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. John the Baptist. The church has the age-old life-size image of the town’s patron saint, visited by many locals who also believe it to be miraculous.
